Olive Opus N*4 & Melody N*2

Olive has always catered to the high end/disposible income market and this hasn't changed. They did revamp their line of devices and right now have probably the best media devices on the market. The new Opus N*4 features a display screen and the options of 320Gb to 1Tb drives inside. There is still the disc drive for ripping music for those who haven't converted their existing cd collection. You can store all your mp3 files and scroll thru the menus to access files and playlists. This can plug right into your existing home theatre system and utilize your surround sound. The second player Melody N*2 is a wireless device that can access the main library and act as a stand alone device. You can have multiple Melodys throughout your home with speakers that can independently play music. You do not need a computer acting as a server like with Sonos since the Opus contains its own hard drive but you are also paying for this luxury as well. The Opus starts at $1500 and reaches $1800 for the 1Tb drive. The Melody would be another $600 plus extra speakers. The Sonos setup will set you back about $1000 as well but you will also have to factor in the price of a computer if you do not already have one.

Sonos has a portable controller that you can scroll thru to access your music whereas the Olive products are embedded. Opus will give you a remote but the good news is that you can access the controls thru a web browser or iPod Touch. You can read more about the Olive products at their site below. Both products are very cool but for the most part out of reach for many people. I will continue to wait for the perfect device at a price I can afford.
