Dean & Britta

Dean Wareham is back and has released a 2nd cd with his wife Britta Phillips. If you are not familiar with Dean he was the lead singer of Luna and one of the founding members of the quintessential indie rock bands Galaxie 500. Together they have released Back Numbers a collection of new songs available on iTunes and your local record store. Unfortunately its not on eMusic but the cd is on my short list of ones to pick up very soon.
Back Numbers has the feel of Luna but is a bit more relaxed with a space age lounge feel going on. The melodies are plush and soothing with an underlying electronic feel. Britta's voice is soft and blends well with Dean's leaving you feeling calm and happy.
While reading their website I found out that Britta who joined Luna back in '99 was the the singing voice of Jem from Jem & The Holograms the 80's children's cartoon. Britta was also an actress and played in a few other bands. The two are touring over the next month but there are no Detroit stops go figure. I think there are more bands not coming to Detroit than are coming here and it really sucks. Now if Grant Lee bails on us I will be really mad. You can take a listen to "Singer Sing" here and you can also find a few more songs on their Myspace page below.
