Sonos? That's So 2005

Remember how I said that the Sonos system was the best digital music delivery system out there? Not anymore, Sooloos has taken that concept and created the coolest setup ever (well til next year when someone outdoes them). Sooloos has different configurations with fanless/self cooling devices that are not gigabytes in size but terabytes and include mirroring for zero downtime. The mirroring function is a backup technique where data is duplicated and spread over multiple servers to prevent data loss. Sooloos also provides 3 different controls the main one is pictured above. Its a 17 inch touch screen that allows you to scroll thru your music and click on the album art you are interested in.
Where the terabytes come in handy is the quality of the files. Instead of compressed mp3s they are stored in the lossless format which translates to 40-50 megs per file instead of 4-5 megs. I would think it could still hold mp3s since the site talks about transferring to your ipod. You can setup zones just like the sonos system and I assume its all wireless although the website doesn't specify.
The site also talks about coming preloaded with your music, you may have to ship your cds to them for conversion. When you buy new music, it looks like they have a racket setup that you purchase thru them, getting the original cd plus a data cd of encoded files that you just load to the system. There is also a subscription service that sends you new music, sounds like another Columbia House to me.
Price wise, the site doesn't say but according to gizmodo, it starts at $12,000. I guess that $1000 Sonos isn't looking too bad afterall......
