Simply Wine

If you haven't been down to Simply Wine in Ferndale I highly recommend it. The store is on Woodward south of 9 Mile across the street from the Woodward Avenue Brewery. The store's setup is pretty interesting, instead of the traditional order the wines are categorized by flavors. You have clean, mineral, crisp area featuring a selection of whites that fall into that taste. This can be chardonnays, chenin blancs and sauvignon blancs etc, from all different regions. There is also rich for whites, rustic and ripe for reds. The owners want you to tell them what flavors or styles you like and they will help you pick a wine out. The prices are all under $15 on these shelves (a few are couple dollars more) and the special occasion section. You will not find a Kendall Jackson here, don't expect to see to many names you recognize. The owner wants to sell wines that don't typically make it to your normal stores but are still good and a bargain. I picked up a 2000 LaPlaya Claret from the Colchaua Valley in Chile for $11.25. This wine is a blend of cab, merlot, carmenere and syrah and is aged in oak.
Overall I was impressed with the store, the concept is cool and its nice to see some different bottles. I have about 3 other ones that I am interested in trying, maybe this weekend I will pick up another bottle. They also have a monthly wine tasting for $20, this month will be pinot noir.
