Ash - Twilight Of The Innocents
Wednesday, July 04, 2007
One of the great brit rock bands of the 90s have released their latest cd Twilight Of The Innocents and at the same time stated its their last official cd. Going forward Ash plan on releasing songs whenever they like and forgoing the whole standard cd pressing. They say it now, will it happen well we shall see. Getting back to the new cd, the band is now a 3 piece once again, after 9 years Charlotte Hatherley left the band. Another interesting piece of information regarding TOTI, Ash self produced the cd which is apparent. This is the biggest downfall since every song sounds the same. There isn't much excitement going on, the songs are upbeat and full of loud guitars but its a very trendy sound. The vocals sound like an 16 year old emo kid rather than someone who has been playing for 18 years. It feels like Ash is obsessed with the US sound and will do anything to break the states. I don't expect Ash to cater to their own country but emulating some of the stupid emo bands from the US isn't the answer. There are a few good songs but none that I really felt like writing about. I was disappointed with this release but honestly gave up on them after Meltdown.
