What Is Acid Lounge?

With all the crazy subgenres of music out there its easy to get lost and throw your hands up in the air. Well I am here to introduce you to a newer (not really new came out in 2000) but one you may have never heard of. The music genre is called Acid Lounge. You may be wondering what this is, well take a bit of Acid Jazz, Chillout, Trip Hop, Electronic, Down Tempo, 60s Soundtrack and some Nouveau Lounge and you have Acid Lounge. From what I can gather, the genre came from to very amazing musicians who performed under the name Marden Hill (the group I stole my moniker from). After Marden Hill broke up, they formed 45 Dip and wrote a soundtrack to a fictional movie and Acid Lounge was born.
If you like downtempo, groove, hammond organs, a bit of kitsch, a bit of noir, some electronic beats and a blend of live jazz music you will enjoy 45 Dip. The name of their cd is The Acid Lounge and since 2003 there have been a few Various Artists compilations under the names Welcome To The Acid Lounge Vol 1, Acid Lounge In Space and The Acid Lounge Goes West. Besides 45 Dip, you will find groups like Groove Armada, Herbalizer, Mr Electric Triangle, Tosca, Bebel Gilberto, Kruder & Dorfmeister and Disjam. Most of these musicians can be found on a wide range of Chillout, Acid Jazz, Trip Hop and Electronic music collections. Whether their music is true Acid Lounge or just thrown in to add some names to the cds its still good listening.
