2006 Clean Slate Riesling

Looking for a good, inexpensive German Riesling, well I have one for you. Its from Clean Slate Vineyards in the Mosel-Saar-Ruwer appellation. Its not your typical German bottle, there is no chateau on the label, if anything you would think it was some New World California wine with its modern design and screw top.

Upon tasting, the wine is very fruity and clean. Its not dry, its thick and rich and coats your tongue with each taste. You have hints of green apple, pear and lots of mineral. I am still blown away at how dense it feels but it doesn't have the flavors or weight of a dessert wine. There isn't a creeping alcohol taste with honey but you swear by the viscosity it could be.

It may be a bit sweet for some but if you are a fan of the Chenin Blanc grape you will really enjoy this one. This wine would go well with any spicy dish, it would cut thru and cool down your taste buds.
