71% Zinfandel, 17% Syrah, 12% Mourvedre - Spring Release 2007.
A Zinfandel-dominated wine that is robust yet balanced - a vintage marked by high levels of acidity and natural, structured tannins, the Zinfandel needed a little rounding out. This was achieved by a modest dose of Syrah, that cut the acidity and added meaty qualities to the explosive fruit. The addition of Mourvedre aids in bringing the wine back to earth with subtle hints of pepper and garden herbs. This wine can be enjoyed by itself or with any robust spice driven meal. Drink now or over the next 2-5 years.

Wow, this is a killer wine and I had the honor of drinking a bottle. It clocks in at $50 and comes from the Paso Robles region in California. Like the description above, its a blend of Zin, Syrah and Mourvedre with the emphasis on the Zin. You can tell how the Syrah balances out the Zin and tones down the sometimes overpowering fruit flavor. Unlike cheap Zins where it can be candy sweet, this wine has a fruit taste dripping in alcohol and oak. The finish is huge and the spice lingers on the back of your tongue and down your throat. I loved this wine and would definitely drink again.
