All Of MP3

The Russian run mp3 site allofmp3.com may be closing up shop due to copyright infringement and pressure from the US govt. The site sells mp3s for pennies on the dollar and although they claim to follow Russian law, I don't think the royalties ever end up where they belong. I never used this site since I am not about to give my credit card information to them. iTunes and the rest of the pay sites are too expensive so that leaves me with eMusic.com where I can get songs for about .25c a piece. Just think, if Apple sold music this cheap, more people would download songs and with the masses consuming, royalties could still be paid to the artists. I think $4.99 a cd is a perfect price but do they listen, no they don't.

update Russia has agreed to shut down Allofmp3.com and other music sites based in that country that the U.S. government says are offering downloads illegally.

The nation has struck the agreement with the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative as it seeks entry to the World Trade Organization. The U.S. has suggested that it would hold up Russia's acceptance in the WTO unless leaders there took action against digital piracy.

"Russia will take enforcement actions against the operation of Russia-based websites," according to a press release issued November 19 by the U.S. Trade Representative. "(Russia will) investigate and prosecute companies that illegally distribute copyright works on the Internet."
