2000 Chateau de Montpezat Corbieres

I opened a bottle of a 2000 Chateau de Montpezat from the Corbieres appellation in France. The Corbieres is located in the south east corner of France also known as the Languedoc region. These vineyards bake in the Mediterranean sun and sit on top of some great clay hills. The grapes in this wine are Grenache noir and Mouvedre, a staple for this region and also for Spain which is not too far away. The 1st nite I opened this wine it was excellent, it has that intense earthiness and spice to it common from the grapes above. By the 2nd nite it had mellowed out a bit, its not bad but I was suprised to see it fall apart so quickly. There is a sweet cherry nose on the wine moderate alcohol, it comes in at 13.5%.

One of my favorite Sonoma vineyards is Cline and they specialize in French varetials. If you are not ready for a southern French wine or just cannot find one, look for Cline and pick up a bottle of either Grenache or Mouvedre.

Pricewise, I picked up this bottle for $10 at Simply Wine, a great deal for 2000 French wine.
