Prince To Reign Over Vegas?

Prince may be taking Sin City by storm - and opening a nightclub in the Rio's former Club Rio space, according to rumors in a Las Vegas Review Journal column. The artist would reportedly headline the club part of the time, and use the club to showcase acts he's signed the rest of the time. His most recent album, 3121, released in March 2006, could provide some details about the venue, as columnist Norm Clarke said the artist may charge a $31.21 entrance fee most nights. The column also reported that the topless revue that opened in February 2005 at Club Rio, Club Erocktica, was given two days notice to close October 20. Club Erocktica is not currently listed on the Rio's Web site event calendar. A Rio representative confirmed the revue was closing until further notice. A flash graphic on Prince's new Web site, 3121.com, shows a red-and-blue lit casino bearing the moniker The Rio, proceeding to a montage of photos of Prince and various artists before the final frame, which reads November 2006. Prince's publicist could not be reached at press time.

I think it would be cool if Prince had a show in Vegas, I would definitely check it out. I saw him on his last tour which was a retirement of his old music and it was amazing. No opening band and for about 2.5 hours Prince weaved all his hits and a few new songs into a collage of greatness. I can see Prince wiggling his way out of his self imposed ban on his back catalogue by setting up shop in Vegas. No need to tour anymore and his fans come to him instead.

It would certainly make it easier for me to plan a trip to see him. He's been my fave since Sign 'O' The Times and I haven't seen him yet.

I had tickets to see him on his Lovesexy tour but the date turned out to conflict with a prior engagement (a school dance with a girl I would break up with soon after). Easily one of my biggest regrets. ;)
