Uncle John's Cider Mill
Sunday, September 10, 2006
On our way home from Erika's parents we stopped at Uncle John's Cider Mill which is about 20 minutes from Lansing. They have recently opened a tasting room for their fruit and grape wines. They have a total of 23 different styles and most of them are apple, pear, cherry, peach and blueberry based. They do make a pinot gris, gewurtzaminer, reisling and both red and white blends but these are only ok and need some work. What Uncle John's does best at are fruit wines and we picked up a couple. The first one we bought was the Harvest Blueberry a great room temp semi dessert/port wine. The 2nd bottle was the Cherry dessert wine a thick and juicy port style wine that goes great with chocolate. They also make 2 more dessert wines a pear and apple which are both very good. I wasn't too hip on the rest of the fruit wines and the sparklings just tasted like juice with a bit of carbonation.
If you are in the Lansing area you should check out the cider mill, the donuts and cider are probably the best in the state.
