Switzerland

Electric Six are back with their 2nd release of 2006, can you say Ryan Adams. Anyways, if you are not familiar with Electric Six, they broke onto the scene with "Danger! High Voltage" back in 2003 with the help of Jack White from the White Stripes. Their new cd Switzerland is a bit different from the previous releases. The jokes, the fire, the party, and the rock n roll are still here but a bit tamed down. The cd starts off with "The Band In Hell" a mid tempo track that reeks of a hangover. Track 2 "I Buy The Drugs" is a mix between Meatloaf and Warren Zevon, a great piano pumping, head bobbing sing a long. Track 3 "Mr Woman" is classic E6, loud guitars, building cresendos and lots of crazy lyrics. Track 4 "Night Vision" is the most radio friendly song and reminds me of the Killers, with its cheezy synth pop. Track 5 "Infected Girls" is great, full of sexual innuendos, devoesque keyboards and swagger. Track 8 "Pink Flamingos" has a country western flare with a storyline that would make for a great B Movie. Lyricwise, its one of the best on the cd and the you can't argue with lines like "And they never fly away, in my front yard they stay" and "You got to climb the statue of the demon to get closer to god". If you are looking for a start to end party cd, this one isn't quite it. That does not mean its bad, I happen to think this cd is their best. The style differences help keep the cd interesting and you can see how much E6 has grown as a band. I give it a 7.5 out of 10.
