Getting To Know The Area
Wednesday, August 09, 2006
I found this on one of my wine blogs today and thought it was a great map of the region. It shows all the great wine areas of California. Besides Napa and Sonoma, you have Monterey, San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara which make up the Central Coast, the next big thing. You also have the Northern areas of the state above Sonoma that most people forget. Just like the rest of the world California has its own appellations where wine will have different characteristics from the soil and climate. Within San Luis Obispo you have one of the hottest areas called Paso Robles an area that has some great vineyards. Some names to remember are Justin Vineyards, Peachy Canyon and J. Lohr. Don't think these are all of them, check out the link below for a bigger list. Next time you are shopping for a bottle of wine, look for a vineyard from this area.
