Jonesy Port

93 points Robert Parker: " What a sensational value ! Made by Trevor Jones in partnership with importer Dan Philips, this is a blend averaging 46 years in age. Its light to medium ruby hue is accompanied by an extraordinary bouquet of sweet candied fruit intermixed with notions of maple syrup, earth, and hazelnuts. This gorgeous tawny delivers plenty of pleasure."

This is NOT your typical tawny port. No nutty or rancio character, but still an unctious fortified libation. Dark and thick, there are notes of raisins and molasses with a hint of tar. Jim Chanteloup K&L Wine Merchants.

I was not able to find a website for this port but I did find plenty of great reviews like the one above. Ok, I will be honest, all the sites had the same review but its down right accurate. I just had some of this last nite and for $10, its an amazing port. It was dark golden brown in color with a hint of sweetness. Ed at Simply Wine sells this one and has been pushing it for the last few months. Just so you know, this is an Australian port, don't think Yellow Tail, think Penfolds. More regions produce port these days, its not just Portugal anymore. Napa Valley has a number of vineyards that make port from the zinfandal, petit sirah and viognier grapes. If you are new to the port world, try a traditional style then venture on in, you won't be disappointed.
