Bob Novak came out yesterday with his role in the Valerie Plame investigtion. Drudge of course had the spinning red light, headlines but since has pulled back. Bob has given us his account of the ordeal, he got Valerie's name from looking up Joe Wilson in Who's Who In America. Bill Harlow then CIA spokesman confirmed information about Valerie when asked by Novak. According to Harlow's testimony he called Novak back and urged him not to use that information in his column. Karl Rove was another confirmer but Novak will not release his original source of the name.

Digging up Valerie's name from Who's Who doesn't tell you whether or not she was a covert agent, someone had to tip Novak off to her line of work. He then used Harlow to gain more info and Rove as an additional source. So the big headlines that Novak was speaking turned out to be no more than a puff piece. We already knew Rove was a source, not officially but there was enough info out there to connect the two. We also knew that Harlow was involved this is old news. What we don't know and Novak will not give up is the original source. Novak will spin the motive that it was not malicious but we all know better.

If it was all peer coincidence that Novak leaked the name of Valerie Plame, why did Scooter Libby obstruct justice and perjur himself during the investigation? Was he protecting Cheney as the official source? Don't let the wingnuts spin you on the line that Valerie was a desk jockey, she was more than that and the whole outing was a swiftboat to shut Joe Wilson up.
