iTunes and 1 Billion

As in past milestones for the iTunes Music Store, Apple has announced a contest for the leadup to the 1 billionth download.

There will be prizes awarded for every 100,000 song milestone starting at 950,100,000 including a black 4GB iPod nano & a $100 iTunes Music Card.

The grand prize winner who downloads the 1 billionth song will receive 1 20-inch iMac, 10 60GB iPods (5 white, 5 black) and a $10,000 iTunes Music Card.

Wow 1 billion downloads, its amazing that we are almost there seeing that the record execs said it would be a bust. Microsoft, Yahoo, Google and Napster want to take on iTunes but it won't happen, Apple has the hardware and the name recognition to give up any ground. They will try but will fail every time. If it comes down to a subscription war, I believe Apple can flip a switch and launch one the very next day. The iTunes exclusives are almost worth the downloads, some of them have some very cool tracks. My new fav things are podcasts, I have been getting into them lately. I will post more about them later.....
