Mark West Pinot

http://www.markwestwines.com/Cause.html

I just opened a bottle of the Mark West Pinot Noir and I have to tell ya, for $14 this stuff is great. My fav pinots come from Oregon but you are hard pressed to find one for under $30 so I have moved south to California where the $10-$20 bottles are plentiful. I love this website, it starts out with the cause and manifesto, it reminds me of the Columbia Crest from WA with the whole people power but this stuff is actually good. The bouquet is full of juicy blackberrys and currants and you have a hint of spice on the taste. Its not too earthy or thin like some MI and New Zealand pinots but it is nowhere near as heavy as a Rex Hill or Elk Cove from OR. This wine could easily be enjoyed with any pasta dish or just on its own. Below is a bit from their site.
................................

For too long we have waited for affordable Pinot. For too long we have endured Merlot. For too long we have simply been denied the choice.

Pinot for the People. It is so much more than a call to arms. It is philosophy in action so join the revolution.

We do not ask for thin, uninspired plonk to satisfy our desire for Pinot. We expect more from this noble grape.

We demand rich, fruit-inspired, easy-drinking wine worthy of the Thanksgiving table and affordable enough to serve with tonight’s pizza.

Good Pinot shouldn’t leave you out on the streets. We demand a Pinot we can proudly serve to friends, family, bosses, in-laws, neighbors and fellow revolutionaries.

Mark West has heard the people… the time has come… Pinot for the People.
