Ciccone Vineyards - Leelanau, MI
Monday, January 23, 2006
I had the Pinot Noir from Ciccone Vineyards this weekend and it wasn't bad. Ciccone is up in the Leelanau Peninsula and is the father of Madonna. The pinot reminded me of the New Zealand wines, they are lighter in color, not very bold and earthy but decent. I am used to pinots from Oregon and California which are deeper in color and flavor and these are a little like kool aid. I really like a lot of whites that are coming out of MI but the reds still need a bit of work. The Cabernet Franc's are good and the pinots are on their way up. If you like Beaujolais which is the pinot grape you will like MI reds. If you want something a bit more heavy and full bodied, pick up an Oregon pinot.
