The Ice Hotel, Sweden

Last nite Erika and I were watching the building of the Ice Hotel 2004-05 on Discovery Science and it was amazing. They take a couple months to build this hotel all out of ice and snow and it is in business for 5 months. To get there you need to fly in and can take a dog sled over to it. Inside there were over 60 rooms and you wear layers of clothing since there is no heat inside. The bar serves drinks in glasses made of ice and there is also a wedding chapel and theatre. Price wise it was 2900 kroner a nite which converts to $368 US for a standard room. Each room has a different theme and an artist who designs the whole thing in ice. I think it would be a lot of fun to stay in the Ice Hotel, if we win the lottery we are going.

How to get to ICEHOTEL in Jukkasjärvi

ICEHOTEL Jukkasjärvi is in the far north, in northern Lapland, Sweden, at a beautiful location beside the River Torne. About 200 kilometers above the Arctic Circle. The site is 17 kilometres from the town of Kiruna, and 12 kilometres from Kiruna Airport.

The direct flight from Stockholm Arlanda to Kiruna Airport takes 1 hour and 30 minutes. SAS has flights daily.

It is a pleasant trip also by train, although it takes longer. Travelling time from Stockholm Central Station and Kiruna railway station is estimated at about 16 hours.
