Motown Winter Blast
Sunday, January 23, 2005
I went downtown today to check out the Motown Winter Blast and was suprised on how many people were down there. I guess after the bad weather yesterday, everyone flocked down today to check it out. They had warming tents setup with cars, bands and a taste fest booth with some great restaurants. I sampled the shrimp helena, shrimp wrapped in filo dough and a marinade from Opus One and a fish taco and cheese empanada from Dona Lola which is a new Latin seafood restaurant downtown. Its over by Mexicantown and doesn't have a liquor license but you can bring your own wine. Erika's boss has been there and has been raving about it for months now and keeps bugging us to check it out. There were dog sledding, model t car rides, sledding and ice sculptures and ice skating for everyone to enjoy. I just missed the Orbitsons playing, I walked in as they were tearing down which kinda sucked. This is a trial run to see how the turnout will be and they are planning on doing it next year during the superbowl. I would have to say it was a success and would to see it again next year.
I also went down to the auto show, I had a free ticket from work and didn't want it to go to waste. The best cars were the Toyta Prius, Sion XA & XB and the Smart cars from a division of Daimler Chrysler in Europe. They are supposed to be over here the end of the year and are pretty sweet cars. They are very small, think the mini and priced between $12K and $20K. There is a 2 person car, remember the rollerskate Suzuki had out back in the 90s, yeah its about that size. The 4 door is a decent size, if u were in the market for a Mini I would definitely check this one out also. There is also a 2 seater roadster which was very cool looking. Most of the american cars sucked, just big, gas guzzling and boring designs, nothing worth really buying. I am holding out for a Prius, probably in about 2 years.
