Ocean Colour Scene - On The Leyline (2007)

Ocean Colour Scene are back with a new release entitled On The Leyline. It has all the makings of a classic OCS record, great hooks, melodies and 60s influence. In the past OCS records pulled heavily from the Beatles but this one has a bit more grit and more of The Jam sound. I am not saying they rip off these bands but if you have never heard of OCS its a good reference point for you to start at. OCS pay hommage to the classic rock sound while giving it a dose of modern day flare. One of my favorite songs on the disc is track 4 "Man In The Middle". It starts off with some good distortion and when the vocals come in it feels like Bad Company's "Feel Like Making Love". The chorus hits and pounds thru followed by a nice countryesque bridge. Track 10 "Loneliest Girl In The Whole Wide World" takes you back to '96 and OCS's Moseley Shoals. You have a sing along, toe tapping beat with hints of psychedelia. The mod is thick on this record and begs to be listened to on a nice summer day.
