Cover Songs

While listening to Woxy today I heard two of the most intriguing covers, the Editors covering Stereolab's "French Disko" and the Yeah Yeah Yeah's doing Sonic Youth's "The Diamond Sea".
I will start with the Editors, I was surprised they were able to pull it off seeing that Stereolab tends to use sounds not easily duplicated. The Editors took the song and just used the standard guitar, drums, bass and keys but did so in a manner that did do the song justice. You could really understand the lyrics which sometimes get lost listening to Stereolab. The song is darker with the Editors and if you had never heard the original you might think it was their own. Stereolab still wins hands down but I respect anyone who attempts to cover them and not screw it up.

The Yeah Yeah Yeah's was ok but not great. It was acoustic and only 4 minutes in length. Karen O tries to actually sing on this one and adds some whispering vocals to the song. "The Diamond Sea" is one of my favorite Sonic Youth songs and seeing it live is mind blowing. The Yeah Yeah Yeah's have bored me as of late but they are still an innovative band who does a good job at their own music.

You can find both songs on iTunes but unfortunately you have to buy the whole Editors cd to get the cover. If you follow the link you can stream it for listening purposes. The Yeah Yeah Yeah's can be found on iTunes Session EP and can be individually purchased for $0.99.
