Seghesio 2004 Barbera d' Alba

The next Italian red I would like to introduce to you comes from Monforte Alba in the Piedmont region of Italy. The wine is produced by Azienda Vitivinicola di Seghesio and contains the Barbera grape. This wine is ruby in color with lots of fruit and low tannin. It is smooth and has a velvet quality which makes it easy to drink. If you are not a fan of the thick tannins some Italian wines can have, check out one of these. Besides Italy, the Barbera grape has been planted throughout California and is used in jug wines due to its fruity flavor.

There is a Seghesio in California and although I couldn't find any information thru google search on this bottle I believe they are connected. Some Seghesio family members left Piedmont and went to California back in the 1800s. Seghesio in CA makes an excellent Zinfandel, if you are a fan of these wines check them out.
