We Have Lift Off

The space shuttle has finally made it out of Florida, lets hope it can return with no problems. Besides the weather, more foam issues have surfaced over the past few days. Its important we get the shuttle and astronauts up to the space station, we need to complete this so we can start on our next project, a permanant lunar base. I am a big space junkie so I am on board for any exploration and think that NASA's budget should be bigger. I want space travel for us common folks and I want to see Mars colonized in my lifetime. As for the shuttle, I think it has served its purpose and I think we need to have a smaller, more efficient mode of transportation to take us up. My fear is that if we cut the space shuttle now we won't have anything to use for years and that will really cripple the plans for our lunar base. The public will forget about space exploration and politicans will stop funding NASA.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Florida (Reuters) - The U.S. space shuttle Discovery roared off its Florida launch pad on Tuesday on a voyage to the International Space Station, a mission whose failure would likely ground the shuttle fleet permanently.
Discovery, carrying seven astronauts, lifted off from the seaside launch site at 2:38 p.m. EDT (1838 GMT) and soared into sunny skies, jettisoning its booster rockets about 2 and a half minutes into the flight. It reached orbit safely about 9 minutes after launch.
