Plamegate Update

http://news.nationaljournal.com/articles/0703nj1.htm

Murry Waas the best journalist out there has given us another glimpse into the world of the "telephone game" played by the administration to out Valerie Plame.

According to Waas, "President Bush told the special prosecutor in the CIA leak case that he directed Vice President Dick Cheney to personally lead an effort to counter allegations made by former Ambassador Joseph C. Wilson IV that his administration had misrepresented intelligence information to make the case to go to war with Iraq, according to people familiar with the president's statement."
..............................................
But as usual, Bush claimed he never told Cheney to out the agent. His version of rewriting history was to declassify Plame's status so it could be given to the media to discredit Joe Wilson. Well either this is big pile of BS or Bush just threw Cheney under the bus. Cheney directed Scooter Libby to leak to the press and since Scooter is faithful to his boss he lied to the grand jury and obstructed justice.

If Bush did order the outing, then this really weakens his whole charge against the NYT and the SWIFT outing. If our WH media press pool had any spine they would call him on this. Lets hope Helen Thomas brings this up at the next briefing. This has all been speculated on before but with Waas adding it to print, it really lends some credibility to the argument.

I wonder if Bush will pardon Libby before the trial or if he will use this as a way to dump Cheney from office. Since we know Rove is off the hook, the spotlight now goes back to Cheney and all the way up the chain of command.
