Why My Music Is Better Than Yours...

Check out this bumper sticker you can get from Amazon for $3. I would like to thank Kathy for this find. Its so true tho, I argue with a couple people here about music and tell them every day their stuff sucks. They make fun of me for my Woxy Vintage and Fred on Sirius but that represents the best era of music ever. 1996 was the year that American music took a downward sprial, grunge was over and the music scene as split between bad rap and nu metal. By 2000 it was boy bands and the rap/metal crossover. It wasn't until the last couple years that indie rock broke thru and got the kids listening to good music once again. The UK watched as they lost the music scene to Seattle back in the early 90s and returned with a vengence. You saw the Blur vs Oasis epic battles and you had Pulp, Supergrass, Charlatans UK, Suede and a ton of others. By 2004 the UK scene had died and they were into what was good here. The White Stripes put Detroit on the map and made the Motor City the place to be. The Strokes & Interpol influenced a ton of crappy bands on both sides of the pond with Franz Ferdinand being the only survivor. Now in 2006 I still think the US has the lead on good music. We have a thriving indie rock scene and the alt country has been humming along for 15 years with no sign of stopping. The UK has had its moments but there is definitely a void that screams to be filled over there. The Artic Monkeys and Babyshambles are trying but they will never reach Oasis levels of the mid 90s. You can thank the WB & FOX for bringing indie rock to the highschool level, shows like the OC introduced DCFC to the masses. At least the high school kids these days will have a good class song and not Boys To Men like a number of people in the class of 92 had. A few of us our senior year rigged the ballot to get "Dont You Forget About Me" by Simple Minds instead of "Its Too Hard To Say Goodbye To Yesterday" by Boyz II Men as our class song.

definately it was the eighties - especially british music in the eighties that was the best - new order, joy division, Siouxsie, Echo - some of the most complex, orchestral pop music ever...
