New Horizon's Probe

Last nite I watched a show I taped from the other day regarding the Pluto mission. It was really cool because they went into detail on how the probe was built, what instruments are on it and how long it will take to relay data. With Pluto being so far away it will take 4.5 hrs each way to pass data so all commands needed to be programmed before hand since mission control would not be able to manuever the probe during the fly by. Speaking about the fly by, thats all its going to be, less than a day for this to occur. The probe is traveling at too high of a speed for it to start orbiting Pluto so they have 1 shot to get it right. Beyond Pluto, you have the Kuiper Belt region, this is where more ice dwarfs lie and more info on how our solar system came to be.

I also learned that our 10th planet which is bigger than Pluto has been named Xena, the astronomers wanted to use the letter X and also wanted a mythological woman's name. Well Xena isn't really what you would call mythological but it was the only thing they could come up with.

The launch is back on for today, yesterday's storms knocked out power in Maryland which delayed it another day. The window is from 1:08pm to 3:07pm for today's launch, I will keep you updated.
