Detroit & The Superbowl

That is a pretty cool logo, I don't care about football but it looks way badass with the Detroit below it. I found it over on gizmodo with the writeup below. The wankers are worried about cables freezing, not sure why that is such a big deal. The game is indoors and they don't seem to have problems broadcasting the Olympics in high def, last time I checked skiing was outside. Someone also made the point that if the cables freeze at 30-35 degrees then a good portion of the country would be without HD every winter. I think its just another knock on Detroit so if they screw anything up they can blame the city. The cables outside will be insulated, thats a no brainer and I assume games at Green Bay have been broadcasted without any problems. With this weekend's weather I don't think it will be a problem at all, I am just worried its going to be too warm for the Winter SnowBlast downtown.

This year’s Super Bowl in Detroit is set to be the largest HD test so far, with ABC showing it in high definition using all kinds of new equipment. ABC sprang for an RF HD camera, which will bless us with wireless high definition video feeds of events in and out of the stadium where a wired HD camera just couldn’t go. Behind the players benches and in the stands, for example. Also being used are high-end camera lenses with Canon’s advanced Optical Image Stabilization system, perfect for long shots and extreme close-ups.

The HD gear will be backed up with several Sony slo-mo cameras, plus a Panasonic camera for the ESPN SkyCam, a Panasonic POV, and Harris encoders and decoders. Sounds like a great set-up, except engineers are beginning to worry that the weather in Detroit may freeze the wires and cables. Why isn’t this thing in Florida again?
